about

I put so much into our Heartattack EP release early this year, I made myself sick with stress. In my sleepless feverish delirium, while I played those 5 songs on torturous repeat, I realized the EP was missing something. Mary Davis, our flagship track, had a badass bassline that wasn't danceable. No shade to the original release; it's a great version of the song, but why not offer it in another flavor?

Based on a slight change to the rhythm of the bass, we re-recorded every element of the track (almost, can you find what stayed?). We added helpings of Luther Vandross, Earth, Wind & Fire, Lizzo, Silk Sonic, Dua Lipa, Morris Day and the Time, and Chic for a modern Disco Funk take on the song

lyrics

I had a dream that Mary Davis hid my heart inside a
Soda can
And then she went and drank it
She kept it well and truthfully I didn't ever want to see it again

Life would be
So much happier with
Just a few more
People to love
And this would be
So much simpler with
Just a few more
People to love

I woke up on one Thursday morning, went outside to find a
Gift at the door
It beat like a drum when
I picked it up and shook it round to try and find what it had hidden in store

I couldn't bear to break the seal, I knew what I would find I
Couldn't return
Love is a stubborn beast
I couldn't break another's heart if I don't know exactly whose I've earned

Life would be
So much happier with
Just a few more
People to love
And this would be
So much simpler with
Just a few more
People to love

From the moment that she left me
I lived my life
Like a zombie and
I would be
So much better with
Just a few more
People to love

I found myself, feeling broken without her
Wondering if I'll ever find another love
Like hers

I had a dream that Mary Davis hid my heart inside a
Soda can
And then she went and drank it
When I woke up I couldn't breathe for all the need I had to see her again
